GoalsILM’s work at this site, was a direct result of our success at Spring Bluff Forest Preserve (a Lake County Forest Preserve Site). IDNR Staff noticed the selective nature of ILM’s herbicide application and wanted to implement it at portions of IBSP.
Services and Results
ILM has had a presence at this site in 2011, 2012, and 2014. The first two seasons working in remote, highly conservatives areas, making selective herbicide applications to Phragmites australis and Typha species. Techniques were limited to hand wicking and wick bar. In 2014 ILM was awarded a contract to focus on the above mentioned species as well as Phalaris arundinacea and Cirsium arvense. This was part of the GLRI (Great Lake Restoration Initiative) grant, which had been implemented the past two growing season and encompassed 190 acres. Due to its size additional techniques needed to be implemented to ensure progress in the reduction of herbaceous non-native species as well as the recruitment of the desirable species.
