LocationMessenger and McKinley Woods, Will County Forest Preserve
GoalsMessenger and McKinley Woods are 117 and 160, respectively, acres of high quality woodlands and both are dedicated Illinois Nature Preserves. The goals of these sites were to eliminate current garlic mustard populations and prevent any plants from going to seed.
Services and Results
For three years ILM implemented several strategies to meet these goals. Very selective spot herbicide applications were performed and cutting seed heads prior to seed development. Timing for the herbicide application and manual cutting was critical to avoid impacting woodland ephemeral emergence and ensuring project success. ILM successfully completed this project and minimized garlic mustard on site.
