Barge Dredging

ILM offers mechanical dredging services performed from a barge comprised of an excavator mounted on a floating platform. Sediment is deposited in “totes” on deck for quick and efficient collection of material. Once full, we drive the barge to shore to empty the totes using a vacuum truck. This compact yet powerful vehicle is equipped with a large, enclosed tank and a high-powered vacuum system. The suction pulls up the sediment from the totes, through the hose, and into the truck’s sealed holding tank. This method is fast and clean, minimizing the amount of spillage during the sediment transfer process.

This system of dredging is ideal for small- to mid-scale dredging tasks in hard-to-reach or shallow environments. Benefits include:

• Low draft allows us to work in shallow water.
• Preserves landscaping since project area is accessed from the water.
