Introduction
The Dvorak Residence is located on a steep slope overlooking Geneva Lake in Southeast Wisconsin. Due to runoff and other factors, areas of a steep slope faced severe erosion. The homeowner wanted to repair these areas, while keeping a “natural” look and blending in with the existing surrounding vegetation. To accomplish this, we installed geonet fabric and coir logs in the eroded areas and also hauled in soil to secure the material in place. Further topsoil was added to plant a variety of native shrubs, mainly sumac, on top of the geonet fabric. Crew members were tied into the hillside and performed all installations by hand.

We were mainly met with aesthetic issues for the newly installed plants. Certain species of shrubs preferred by the homeowner were not available during this time of year, and finding other native species that looked similar to the existing vegetation was difficult. In the end, we worked with the homeowner to decide on a mixture of shrubs and prairie grasses that were most suitable for the hillside, while also maintaining a cohesive look.
